Job Description / Responsibility
• PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
• The Nutrition Technical Advisor will be responsible for leading overall efforts related to multi-sectoral nutrition programming including community level nutrition implementation and coordination. Required attributes: Proven expertise in effective multi-sectoral nutrition service delivery; achieving results through well conceptualized, planned and implemented public health and agriculture programs; demonstrated management, coordination, teamwork, and planning skills, with proven ability to function effectively with multiple host country counterparts in both the public and NGO sectors; strong verbal and written English communications skills.
• MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide technical guidance in nutrition research design, monitoring, and evaluation
• Collaborate in research monitoring and address any bottlenecks or challenges as identified
• Conduct an institutional assessment to identify barriers to implementing multi-sectoral nutrition program.
• Lead research dissemination and translation, via presentations, publications of policy briefs and papers, appropriately targeting key decision makers
• Organize joint field visits with staff from different ministries /sectors at project location.
• Work with program and Evidence and Learning Leads to utilize evidence from technical approaches/experiences to influence internal and external stakeholders.
• Lead NGOs technical or sector specific working groups at national and regional levels to influence national government and donor development strategies.
• Collaborate with SO International Programs Group (IPG) teams and Regional and National Offices to develop and conduct training in program methodologies and concepts, including program design, monitoring and evaluation.
• Lead efforts to strengthen public and private sector capacity at various levels (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, pharmaceutical outlets) to ensure GOB joint collaboration, management and ownership
• Provide leadership and coordination in the development, dissemination and promotion of grant strategies, standards and tools in the technical area
• Identify and communicate program quality concerns early to ensure swift resolution; escalate program quality concerns appropriately to CoP and other key stakeholders
• Identify and implement opportunities for research to enhance learning and build the evidence base/generate evidence, ideally with academic partners.
• Spearhead research, documentation and reflection exercises for learning
• Collect, document and disseminate field best practices, case studies and success stories
• Encourage and facilitate the documentation of best practices and lessons learned, directed toward multiple audiences, to influence policy formation, develop capacity and foster professionalism
• Develop abstracts and/or publications based on learnings and best practices and lead presentations at TAG meetings and international conferences
• Represent WV at external workshops, technical forums, engaging with relevant sectors/ ministries, donors and other partners.
• Ensure WV is a prominent actor at all levels; networking
• with relevant ministries and contribute to national nutrition strategy
• Closely work with Institute of Public Health and Nutrition (IPHN) to move forward Multisectoral Nutrition Agenda with other departments/institutions
• Compile updated fact sheets on nutrition

• Training and experience required:
• Extensive understanding of USG standards on nutrition & health
• Extensive knowledge related to Maternal and Child Health & Nutrition behavioral practices
• In-depth knowledge of multi-sectoral approaches nutrition and/or public health, and diverse research methodologies
• Knowledge of and experience in social and behavior change, and gender issues as they relate to health and nutrition
• Proven expertise in effective multi-sectoral nutrition service delivery; achieving results through well conceptualized, planned and implemented public health and agriculture programs nutrition service delivery
• Strong scientific writing skills (proposals and publications); understanding and experience in evidence translation
• Demonstrated management, coordination, teamwork, and planning skills, with proven ability to function effectively with multiple host country counterparts in both the public and NGO sectors;
• Understanding and experience of the Bangladesh context is desired
• History of engagement with USAID-funded initiatives preferred
• Strong workshop facilitation skills
• Strong networking skills
• Additional work experience required:
• Substantial experience in research design, implementation, management; hands-on research experience in resource constrained settings essential
• Demonstrable publication record; publications directly relevant for knowledge translation
• Experience with research within the multi-sectoral approaches towards improving nutrition an asset
• License, registration, or certification required:
• Spoken and written Bangla and knowledge of the region is desirable
• Strong English communication skills, particularly advanced writing skills, report writing skills for a variety of stakeholders
• Preferred skills, knowledge and experience:
• Doctoral level training in nutrition or public health or other relevant field, preferred
• Strong project management skills; experience developing and managing budgets for research essential
• Very organized, able to manage high pressure deliverables and capable to work independently
• Work environment:
• Conducts occasional field visits in accordance with the project implementation plan and in coordination with other Grants program team officers
