Project Assistant – Sylhet – International Organization for Migration

Job Description / Responsibility

Type of Appointment: Special Short Term (09 months with possibility of extension)
General Functions:
Under supervision of Project Coordinator and overall supervision of National Programme Officer (Migration Health), head of sub-office Sylhet and Migration Health Officer of IOM Dhaka, the incumbent will be responsible for assisting in local level coordination and implementation of the project “Promoting comprehensive Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights for internal migrants and internally displaced populations living in 756 urban slums in Sylhet City of Bangladesh”.
The incumbent will be assigned to inter alia, the following tasks:
Provide assistance to meet the timely and efficient implementation of the Project activities for Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) care services for the internal migrants and displaced populations living in slums in Sylhet City Corporation in close coordination with the Project Coordinator and the Programme Manager;
Support the organization, office management, logistics and coordination of meetings, workshops, training events and conferences;
Regular communication with the city corporation health facilities to ensure necessary cooperation and support required by them in line with the project objectives.
Assist in procurement of equipment, services and logistics as per needs and keep documents of all financial transactions (vouchers/bills) to produce to the office.
Assist in the development of information and communication materials (such as leaflets, brochures, promotional items, etc) and websites;
Assist in the coordination with counterpart entities in the respective national government as well as provide updates of programme goals and status of implementation to relevant authorities;
Undertake field travel relating to project/programme monitoring and assessment, liaison with counterparts, supervise the implementing partner with problem solving and programme development, as required.
Assist in reviewing and assessing periodic reports submitted by implementing partners;
Contribute to the development of new projects and preparation of project related reports for IOM and donors;
Participate in the different meeting and liaise with the other agencies and review and provide inputs to reports/joint UN initiatives;
Coordinate with the Migration health team at IOM Sylhet and support the implementation of other activities and events as required and develop new initiatives in collaboration with other programmes of IOM;
Perform such other duties that may be assigned by supervisors

Educational Requirements
Completed university degree from an accredited academic institution preferably Masters in Social Sciences/ Public Health/ Population Science/ Health Economics or other relevant subject.

Experience Requirements
At least 2 year(s)

Additional Job Requirements
At least two (02) years’ experience in public health project implementation
Work experience in the area of sexual and reproductive health is an advantage
Work experience with international organizations in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage
Work experience of organizing events, logistic management and financial record keeping and office management
Team-work oriented, capacity to work independently; personal commitment, efficiency, flexibility, experience in working effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds at all levels
Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines
Good communication and negotiation skills
Sound Computer knowledge
Good drafting and communication skills in Bangla and English is essential
